ACUPUNCTURE
Oriental medicine evolved in China and relies on human trials that have taken place over thousands of years to validate effectiveness. Because results were based on human experience and not laboratory data, a different vocabulary developed to explain how life energy “Qi” (chee) and blood travel through the body in certain pathways (meridians) and can get obstructed by trauma, emotions, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices. Qi flows to all parts of the body through a collection of connected pathways called meridians. The acupuncture points are specific locations where the meridians are accessible and where qi can be easily directed. The acupuncture meridians correspond to 12 organ systems that are collectively responsible for all functions of the body, mind, and spirit. Health problems result when Qi is insufficient, unbalanced, or interrupted in one or more of the meridians or organ systems. The goal of acupuncture treatments is to restore energetic balance to the body, mind, and spirit. We are proud to offer Chinese, Japanese, and 5 Element acupuncture.
HERBAL MEDICINE
Chinese herbal medicine is the use of natural substances as prescription medicine. The Chinese herbal pharmacopia consists of thousands of herbs, each possessing specific properties, actions, and functions.
We customize our chinese herbal prescriptions to your unique imbalances to help restore balance to your body, mind, and spirit. As a supportive therapy, your prescription is discontinued as soon as homeostasis, or internal balance has returned. This differs from pharmaceutical therapy that by definition has substitutive effects only lasting as long as the medicine is continued.
The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 4 billion people, 80% of the world population, presently use herbal medicine for some aspect of primary health care. Herbal medicine is a major component in all indigenous peoples’ traditional medicine and a common element in Ayurvedic, homeopathic, naturopathic, traditional Oriental, and Native American medicine. WHO notes that of 119 plant-derived pharmaceutical medicines, about 74% are used in modern medicine in ways that correlate directly with their traditional uses as plant medicines by native cultures. Major pharmaceutical companies are currently conducting extensive research on plant materials gathered from the rain forests and other places for their potential medicinal value.
TUINA MASSAGE
Tuina is an Oriental Bodywork therapy that has been used in China for over 2000 years. Tuina uses Traditional Chinese Medicine theory of energetic flow through the meridians as its basic therapeutic approach. Through the application of massage and manipulation, Tuina seeks to reestablish the normal, harmonious flow of Qi in the meridians, therefore allowing the body to naturally heal itself. This may be incorporated into your acupuncture treatment.
Pediatric Tuina is the main form of treatment for our young patients along with herbal medicine. It involves a complete system of reflexology, massage, and acupressure along points and meridians of the hand, arms, and back of an infant or toddler.
MEDICAL QIGONG
Afraid of needles? We have something just for you. Medical Qigong (chee-gong) treatments are purely energetic treatments that involve the therapist purging, tonifying, and regulating the body’s Qi through the use of breath, intention, and posture.

NUTRITION & FOOD THERAPY
A nutritious, well-balanced diet is integral to optimal health. Over half of all disease is now known to be nutritionally related. Inflammatory and allergic conditions are great examples that can be treated very effectively with nutrition. An analysis of your diet is one of the best things you can have done to improve your health and wellbeing. It is also obvious from the latest epidemics of diabetes, obesity, and heart disease that nutrition is and will be the key to healthy families and communities in the future.
In the Oriental system of medicine we use food as medicine. In addition to the standard western knowledge about diet and nutrition, we acknowledge the energies and flavors of food as having particular actions on the body. These properties are very important in the treatment of disease and also for achieving and maintaining a state of balance for your particular constitution.
We offer nutritional counseling/food therapy, cleansing and detoxification programs, and the highest quality nutritional supplements for your healing program.
